What's legal
Wyoming allows online sports wagering only. Governor Mark Gordon signed House Bill 133 on April 5, 2021, and the act took effect September 1, 2021. The Wyoming Gaming Commission issues the operator permits and regulates the market. The law has no retail sportsbook category. Operators remit 10% of online sports wagering revenue to the state each month.
The Commission's permit-holder page lists six online sports wagering operators: BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, Fanatics, Barstool and Caesars. Operators must use geolocation to confirm you are inside Wyoming when you bet. The act covers single-game bets, parlays, props and in-play wagering. It bars wagers on events where most athletes are under 18, and it states that fantasy sports contests are not gambling.
The Commission's rules set the minimum age at 18 for opening an account, depositing or betting. That is lower than most states. An app may apply a higher limit of its own, so check its terms before you sign up. Operators must verify your name, date of birth and Social Security number or equivalent ID number electronically, and they must refuse an account when the details are untrue or incomplete.
Crypto and offshore sites
Wyoming's act lists digital, crypto and virtual currencies among the approved cash equivalents for online sports wagering. Whether a given permitted app takes crypto is the operator's choice, and licensed US sportsbooks generally do not.
Crypto acceptance does not make a site legal. Only a Gaming Commission permit holder may take a Wyoming sports bet, and the statute says no one may accept online sports wagers without a permit. An offshore crypto sportsbook outside the permit-holder list is unlicensed in Wyoming.
Tax note
Wyoming has no state individual income tax, so winnings face federal tax only.
Federal tax applies to winnings at your ordinary rate, and large payouts can bring a W-2G. Keep records of wins and losses. The Woyale tax guides show a worked example, and a tax professional can address your situation.
