What's legal
Gov. Laura Kelly signed Senate Bill 84 on May 12, 2022. Kansas took its first legal sports bets on September 1, 2022. Betting runs through the four state-owned casinos: Boot Hill in Dodge City, Hollywood Casino in Kansas City, Kansas Star in Mulvane and Kansas Crossing in Pittsburg. Each casino can host up to three online platforms.
The Kansas Lottery's September 2026 report shows seven online sportsbooks with handle: DraftKings at Boot Hill, theScore at Hollywood, FanDuel and bet365 at Kansas Star, and BetMGM, Caesars and Fanatics at Kansas Crossing.
You must be 21, as K.S.A. 74-8757 sets the minimum age for any sports wager. The Lottery's reports show the state share at 10% of sports wagering revenue. The Lottery runs the program through its casino partners, and the Racing and Gaming Commission regulates it.
Crypto and offshore sites
Kansas licenses sports betting only through its four casinos and their partner platforms. The Lottery's sports betting page lists the four casino sportsbooks, and an app tied to none of them is unlicensed in Kansas.
Offshore crypto sportsbooks hold no Kansas license. You would have no Kansas regulator to complain to if a withdrawal stalled, and state law gives you no protection on those sites.
Before you deposit anywhere, check which casino the app names as its partner.
What's changing
Chapter 118 of the 2026 session laws, approved on April 9, 2026 and published in the Kansas Register on April 16, authorizes the Racing and Gaming Commission to adopt permanent sports wagering regulations. The rules cover licensing, operations and wagering practices under K.A.R. 112-201 through 112-204. The Commission lists its sports wagering regulations on its website.
Tax
Kansas taxes income at 5.2% on the first $23,000 for single filers ($46,000 for joint filers) and 5.58% above that. Gambling winnings are part of the income taxed, and federal tax applies on top.
