What's legal
Georgia has no licensed sportsbook, retail or online, and no regulator for one. The state constitution bars most gambling apart from the Georgia Lottery and a few exceptions such as charitable bingo, and state law makes betting on the outcome of a game illegal gambling. Georgia has no casinos and no tribal gaming, so there is no in-person option either.
Crypto and offshore sites
With no licensed book, no Georgia sportsbook can take a crypto deposit. Offshore crypto sportsbooks are not licensed in Georgia or any other state, so no US regulator stands behind your balance and no state agency handles complaints about them.
Georgia law treats betting on sports as illegal gambling whether it happens at a bar or on a phone. No Georgia official has announced enforcement aimed at crypto sportsbooks, prediction markets or sweepstakes sites, so the risk comes from the statute itself. For a firm answer about your situation, ask a Georgia lawyer.
What's changing
Legalization has failed every year in Georgia. In 2026, two paths were open. HR 450, sponsored by Rep. Marcus Wiedower, would have put a constitutional amendment on the ballot. It needed 120 votes, two-thirds of the House, and failed 63 to 98 on March 6, 2026, the last day a bill could cross to the Senate. HB 686, the Georgia Sports Betting Act, would have run betting through the Georgia Lottery Corporation and was the companion to the amendment. It passed the Higher Education Committee the same day but was never voted on.
A separate bill, HB 910, proposed licensing betting as a lottery game without an amendment. It stayed in the House Higher Education Committee. The next chance for lawmakers is the 2027 session.
Tax
Georgia taxes gambling winnings as income. The state's flat rate for 2026 is 4.99%, down from 5.19% in 2025, and federal tax applies on top.
