Is crypto sports betting legal in Colorado?

A packed stadium under floodlights
Short answer

Online sports betting is legal and live in Colorado, and has been since May 1, 2020. The Division of Gaming lists 13 licensed online sportsbooks, and you must be 21. Offshore crypto sportsbooks hold no Colorado license, so state oversight and consumer protections do not reach them.

What's legal

Colorado voters approved sports betting in 2019 with Proposition DD, and legal betting began on May 1, 2020. Licenses are tied to casinos in Black Hawk, Central City and Cripple Creek, and each casino license can sponsor an online brand. The Division of Gaming's own list of online operators shows 13 as of October 2026, including DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, Fanatics, Hard Rock Bet and bet365. A separate Division list covers retail sportsbooks. You must be 21 or older and physically in Colorado to bet.

A 2026 law, SB 26-131, added limits. Online operators may take no more than six deposits per account in a gaming day, may not accept credit card deposits, may not send push notifications or texts that solicit bets or deposits, and may not target advertising at people under 21. It took effect on August 12, 2026.

Crypto and offshore sites

In 2022 the Division approved a route where a third-party processor converts crypto into dollars before the deposit reaches a sportsbook. That is a conversion step, so you are not betting in coins.

Offshore crypto sportsbooks are not licensed in Colorado or any other US state. Colorado has no authority over them, and a stalled withdrawal would leave you with no state agency to complain to.

Before you deposit anywhere, look the operator up on the Division of Gaming's list of licensed online operators. A site that is not on that list is unlicensed, whatever its homepage claims, and it has no duty to follow Colorado's consumer rules.

What's changing

The main change is SB 26-131, signed in June 2026. Breaking its credit card ban is a class 2 misdemeanor, and the Limited Gaming Control Commission can fine a violator up to $25,000. Operators report data to the Division each year, and the first of its three-yearly public reports is due on January 1, 2029.

Colorado taxes sportsbooks at 10% of net sports betting proceeds, and the Division says the revenue supports the state's water plan.

Tax

Colorado taxes income at a flat 4.4% (the rate on 2025 returns), so gambling winnings count as taxable income on top of federal tax.
